viAct Featured in Tech in Asia: Beyond Vision AI to Agentic Intelligence
Interesting how quickly the conversation around AI in built environments has moved towards agents.
Because for a long time, the challenge was much simpler: Can systems actually understand what is happening on-site?
That question has shaped much of viAct’s work over the last decade. Building computer vision and video analytics applications across construction, manufacturing, logistics, oil & gas, and other high-risk environments, meant spending years teaching systems to recognise context and scenarios that people on the ground deal with every day — unsafe behaviours, operational risks, fatigue, hazards, and bottlenecks.
Perhaps that is also why, when we think about LLMs, VLMs (Vision Language Models), and agentic workflows today, the conversation feels less about automation and more about perception.
Reasoning matters. Coordination also matters. However, in physical environments, “seeing” is what matters the most.
One thing high-risk environment have repeatedly shown us over the years is: workplace incidents, delays, and operational blind spots often happen in the moments that go unnoticed.
And maybe that is where the next chapter of industrial AI begins.
Not with replacing Vision AI. But building upon it, enriching visual intelligence with IoT, wearables, and agentic AI systems capable of interpreting, coordinating, and supporting decisions in real-world environments.
Interesting to see this broader conversation gaining attention. The recent Tech in Asia feature explores how industrial AI is evolving from monitoring environments to building more connected intelligence layers around safety, productivity, and operations.
Grateful to Adinda Pryanka for taking the time to unpack where conversations around Vision AI, agentic systems, and industrial intelligence is heading.
